About the Artist
Pianist Mary Lou Muller, a native of Houston, Texas, began the study of piano at an early age under the supervision of several artist teachers at the Southern College of Fine Arts in Houston. She holds degrees from North Texas University and the University of Southern California. Upon graduation from North Texas University with a Bachelor of Music Degree in Piano Performance she was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to study piano at the National Conservatory of Music in Paris, France.
Ms. Muller completed course work for a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree in Piano Performance at NTU, and has had graduate training in orchestra conducting and opera performance at NTU and Indiana University. Piano professors include Haydn Roberts (from the Julliard School of Music), Josephine Restelle-Boren (from the Eastman School of Music), Elizabeth Morosov (from the Prague Conservatory of Music, Czechoslovakia) through high school. She studied with pianists Dr. Silvio Scionti and Dr. Stefan Bardas NTU; John Crown USC, and Lillian Steuber USC (chamber music). In Paris, France Ms. Muller studied piano with Marcel Ciampi at the Conservatoire National de Musique, and participated in the Master Piano Classes of pianist Alfred Cortot.
She has been a piano soloist with the Houston Symphony Orchestra during its musical direction under Leopold Stokowski. Following her residing in Europe Ms. Muller performed a Town Hall Debut in New York City, and was successfully reviewed by New York music critics. “A musician of refinement and musical intelligence.” “Sound and interesting musical ideas.”

Ms. Muller was on the faculties of Sam Houston University in Texas and the University of North Dakota where she served as piano teacher, accompanist, opera coach and conductor. She has conducted 0rchestras and choirs in Texas and California, and has accompanied for professional singers and instrumentalists including the Summer Vocal Institute of Elizabeth Mannion at Santa Barbara, California. She is a member of Sigma Alpha Iota, the Music Teacher’s National Association, the National Guild of Piano Teachers, and has been an adjudicator for numerous music competitions.
Ms. Muller now resides in Kalamazoo, Michigan performing and teaching. |
